Fitter, Healthier and Happier Teens!

I am so happy to announce that the Diamondz in the Ruff Mentoring and Leadership Academy has invited me to volunteer in their program.  This Saturday I will be speaking to teens on the importance of healthy eating habits and being active.

As a Middle School educator of 18 years I have noticed the alarming rate at which the fitness levels and nutritional habits of our teenage/adolescent population are deteriorating. Although there are other underlying factors, I strongly believe that poor nutritional habits and the lack of physical activity contribute to a lack of self esteem and poor academic achievement.

My own personal journey and successes in health and fitness has shown me that the discipline and habits required to develop a fit body, and to make good food choices, can be translated into developing a habit of discipline in other aspects of our lives. For our youth it means that discipline found outside of the classroom will be translated to disciplined behavior inside the classroom.

The goal of my presentation will be to discuss what constitutes a healthy meal, healthy vs unhealthy snacks and how to eat those “naughty treats” in moderation.  The presentation will follow more of a workshop model, involving activities, group discussion and/or presentations and Q & A.

Should you have any further questions regarding the Diamondz in the Ruff Mentoring and Leadership Academy please contact Ms. Simone Williams at diamondzintheruff15@gmail.com.  If you have any questions regarding the presentation please contact me at thefitterwoman@gmail.com.
